During this time I had also already been involved
with the Mathematics Education
Project - an association that now goes back to
about 1990 and is currently the
Schools Development Unit (SDU), which now includes
science, language, literacy and life-skills components. This involved
classroom-based teacher development, pupil enrichment,
MEP courses, workshops and some writing for MEP
publications.

The task involved
Writing mathematics learner books/texts and teacher assessment guides
that are outcomes-based and meet the requirements of the
new Curriculum, RNCS and
NCS.
Consultations with mathematicians (UCT’s Mathematics and Applied
mathematics Department), Statisticians (UCT) mathematics educators (UCT’s
School of
Education Department), teacher consultants and
trialling of material with learner groups.
Re-conceptualisation of the revision process as well as re-writing the
revised texts
Book cover design as well as mathematical artwork (mathematical diagrams
and
2005 – 2006: Convenor and coordinator (and
writer) of the Maths for all textbook team for Grades 11 and 12
2006 – 2007: Editor (coordinator and writer)
of grade 12 Maths for all textbook.

Awards received |
1998: The Claude Harris Leon Award – A
Championship in Teaching of Mathematics Award, through the University of
Cape Town’s Mathematics Department and Education Department, AMESA Western
Cape and MEP. The award made R 30 000 available for the improvement of
mathematics teaching at Grassy Park High School.
1999: UCT-Oxford University Exchange – this
offered an opportunity to attend the ATM conference as well as consulting
and research opportunities (for the development of the MEP mathematics
texts). |
